WHY LINK BUILDING MATTERS…
To understand why linkbuilding is important you need look back to 1996. Larry Page was looking for a way to find which were the most important academic texts. He decided that the seminal texts, the most influential ones, would be the most heavily cited by other authors. After all if everyone in your field is quoting you then the odds are you’re worth knowing about.
This same logic applies to the internet; the more citations or links that you have the more noteworthy you are.
Of course a lot has changed since 1996. Now we have PageRank (don’t get us started on PageRank), the reasonable surfer model and a move towards the semantic web but the basic principle remains the same.
